MIAMI "MONKEY" ISLAND

Miami Island has for years been referred to as "Monkey" Island. Nobody seems to know why. A former resident recalls that as a child, he and his friends used to go there and swing from the wild grapevines hanging from the trees on the island. He always referred to the island as "Monkey Island". This theory has not been verified.

Size: 5 acres

Location: 801 N. State St., at the north end of the golf course, accessible over a stone bridge.

Features: The Island has a boat launch for small boats, playground equipment and picnic tables/grills. There are currently no grapevines on the island.
