In Search of the Perfect Christmas Tree...

The City of Mishawaka is rich in tradition especially during the holiday season. Each year a call goes out to the citizens of Mishawaka that the City of Mishawaka is looking for the perfect Christmas tree to display on the northeast lawn of the Mishawaka Police Department. Once lit, this tree can be seen for many blocks while traveling north and south along Main Street or east and west along Mishawaka Avenue.

The perfect Christmas tree does have a few requirements:

  • it must be approximately 30-40 feet tall
  • abundant in branches and needles so that it is able to hold thousands of Christmas lights as well as the many ornaments decorated by Mishawaka students.
  • easily moved from your property to its final location downtown

If you believe you have the “perfect” tree, we ask that you contact the Mayor’s Office at (574) 258-1601. The City Arborist and the Mishawaka Utilities Electric Division Manager will come by your location to evaluate the tree and see if the tree can be easily removed from your property.

If your tree is chosen, you and your family will be VIP guests of Mayor Wood, participating in the procession with Santa and will be guests of honor at the tree lighting. You will get to “flip the switch” and have the honor of lighting this tree for all in the City of Mishawaka to enjoy during the holiday season.
